Switching to Natural Perfume: Raha by Trilogy

August 14, 2015

Slowly but surely I’ve been cutting out a lot of products from my skincare and beauty regime. I’ve reduced my make-up collection and swapped out products I really like using with natural, organic or ethical alternatives. One area I was struggling with was perfume. I’ve been wearing Chanel’s Allure Sensuelle  for years now and the thought of swapping it out made me a little sad. I’m a little undecided about letting go of this favourite signature scent of mine, especially as I’ve almost come of the end of my current bottle. As it happened Trilogy have just come out with a new natural perfume called Raha (meaning ‘joy’ in Swahili).

Raha Natural Perfume is an all-natural, sunflower based perfume oil. The oil is hand-harvested and cold-pressed Tanzania sunflower oil. Where synthetic perfumes use alcohol to make the perfume last longer, natural perfumes have to achieve high enough concentration to retain the fragrance in the bottle on on your skin by simply using natural ingredients.

Even more appealing than this all-natural perfume is the social good campaign that it is propelling. Trilogy is working in partnership with So They Can, a not-for-profit organisations working to education and empower communities in Africa. The organisation invests in communities in Kenya and Tanzania by focusing on education, and building the local economy through enterprise, not aid. With the Raha perfume Trilogy and So They Can are aiming to raise $30,000 to provide income for 50 Tanzanian women and support a full year’s education for 500 children. The oil for the perfume is purchased from So They Can’s farm in Tanzania, NZ$2 from every bottle sold is donated to So They Can and 250 bottles of Raha are donated to the organisation for their own fundraising.

Raha is very modern in its fragrance but with the familiar scents of vanilla, spice and hints of blue iris. The perfume come beautifully packaged making it such a wonderful “just because” gift. Raha comes in 7.5ml bottle with a roll-on applicator ideal for your handbag and for travelling. Raha retails for $24.90 for 7.5ml, you can purchase it online or find your nearest stockist here.
