NZFW15: NZ Weddings Magazine Collection 2015

August 28, 2015

I was lucky enough to attend the New Zealand Weddings Magazine Collection 2015 show at this years New Zealand Fashion Week. Wedding shows aren’t typical something I attend at fashion weeks – in large part because I’m married and don’t plan on doing it again. That said, I’m glad I went to the show. If there was one consistent and lasting message with each garment and collection it was that elegance is timeless, it endures. I’ve culled my photos and picked my favourites for you.

Natalie Chan

Opening the show was Natalie Chan whose millinery caught my attention the dresses were of course stunning but it was the headpieces all designed and made in house at atelier in Auckland that stood out for me.

Hera Bridal Couture

Katie Yeung of Hera Bridal Couture presented a collection inspired by New Zealand’s natural beauty and its comforting scenes. In doing so she created a collection that appeared comfortable, easy flattering as well as being strikingly beautiful without looking out-of-place. The show includes brides and flower girls and I saw many watery eyes (me included).

Robyn Cliffe

You’ll see by the increased quantity of images I’m sharing from the Robyn Cliffe show that it was my favourite. A bridal jumpsuit – yes please. The garment was beautifully constructed and fitted the body perfectly. I wonder if we’ll see brides turning to pieces. I don’t think there’s any reason not to when they’re well-constructed, the fabric flows and gives a timeless appeal. The shapes and fabric throughout the collection held my attention. From sleek silhouettes to fuller pieces everything just seemed to fit neatly together yet told a magical story individually.

John Zimmermann Couture

John Zimmermann took the years bohemian trend and lifted it with couture quality fabric and embellishments. In John’s work you can easily identify the time period that inspires him (the 30s and 50s) but with details and twists that speak to his knowledge of bridal and contemporary trends each season.

And finally, some images from the final walk. The entire show brought to life the ever elusive concept of sartorial elegance. I can definitely see myself attending wedding shows in the future. There’s something about them that leaves you (whether you’re a bride-to-be or not) wanting to embrace more style and elegance in your everyday wardrobe.
