Childhood Memories and Winter Lippies

June 22, 2015

It was my father, surprisingly enough, who bought me my first lipstick. I was in my early teens and it was a beautiful shiny, pink called cosmic pink (or cosmic something or the other). I’ve tried unsuccessfully for years to replace it both through the brand that produced it and by looking for similar colours. Who would have thought over 15 years later the closest, most perfect match to this childhood favourite would find itself in my mailbox – the Karen Murrell Fuchsia Shock lipstick. For many, bold and sexy are often linked to the colour red. I don’t feel like I can pull off red very well – red anything (clothing, lipstick…anything) but pink on the other hand I can do. I think it can be just as bold and sexy and I think there’s something a little more flirtatious about pinks compared to reds. It hints of layers that perhaps need to be peeled back. I keep my make-up fairly light and dewy in the winter and the fuchsia shock complements that look perfectly.

About the brand: I hadn’t tried Karen Murrell before but the selling point for me was that there are no nasties in them. The packaging cleverly includes “nothing nasty touches my lips”. The product has no animal-based materials and is not tested on animals. The lipstick smells like cinnamon, I was able to apply it without first applying balm to my lips (which I often need to do with lipstick because they dry my lips). The lipstick was hydrating, the colour didn’t seep and even though it was quite light on first application, it can easily be built up to a darker shade.

What’s your go-to sexy/bold lipstick?
