Sometimes I Wear White

January 6, 2015

I don’t always all black. Sometimes, I wear white on cream. I wear white often, white pants specifically but there are a few other white, off-white and cream pieces in my wardrobe that I wish got more wear. And the only way they’ll get worn is if I make more of an effort. I love how fresh white looks against bare legs and a glow-y face.

This was probably the most festive look I wore throughout the holiday season and I didn’t wear it to a party or anything. I just wore it out, as part of the everyday. One of my biggest tips to curating a wardrobe that you love and wearing what you have would be to stop shopping for occasions or events. I used to, a lot. If there was a launch of something that I was invited to, I went shopping. I don’t any more and all those outfits I bought for occasions I now try to work into my everyday wardrobe. If I can’t, I think really hard about the place they have in my wardrobe. Sometimes keeping one or two around is a good visible reminder of what not to do!

I’m not a big fan of skirts, but I picked this one from Diane von Furstenberg in Hong Kong (almost five years ago!). It’s an easy colour to wear, has pockets, and is fitted in all the right places. Exactly like this cream aperiodic top. Perfectly structured but still loose. This was a lesson I needed to learn – that I can get away with more loosely fitting clothes as long as there is a little bit of structure to them.

Another proud moment is that nothing in this outfit is new (except the cuff which was a gift from Patrick). The shoes are by Burberry and from a few seasons ago. Pushing yourself to use what you have to create new outfit combinations is not only rewarding but allows you to get the most out of your investment in your wardrobe.

This is the first time I’ve worn these pieces together and I’m already looking forward to wearing it again but perhaps mixing up the accessories to change the look completely.

Can you think of a favourite item from your wardrobe and pair it with something you haven’t before? I always wore this top with pants, this was a great change.
